Trial markets planned for Folkestone

A host of new trial markets will be popping up in Folkestone town centre as part of the Folke About Town series and the wider market improvement programme in the town.

Guildhall Street and Sandgate Road will be lined with stalls selling a mix of food, art and more at the following events:

Saturday 24 August and Saturday 5 October: Folkestone Street Market between 10am and 4pm

This enhanced version of the regular Saturday market on Sandgate Road will include stalls selling food, pre-loved clothes, art and crafts. There will be a bar, seating and music for the public to enjoy the atmosphere in the town centre.

Saturday 14 September: Art market between 10am and 4pm

Part of OpenArtFolke, this art market will see independent local artists from all genres selling their wares along Guildhall Street.

Thursday 19 September – Sunday 22 September: Continental market

Get ready for tasty cheese and cured meats when the continental market is in town.  It will trade on Sandgate Road between 10am and 6pm on Thursday 19 September through to Saturday 21 September, and then between 10pm and 4pm on Sunday 22 September.

The Folke About Town programme has been created in response to the planned physical regeneration of Folkestone town centre with the aim of bringing vibrancy specifically to Sandgate Road and Guildhall Street.

Cllr Rich Holgate, Cabinet Member for the District Economy said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting these great markets in Folkestone town centre. I’d encourage everyone to come down and check out what is on offer, with a wide variety of goods from food, clothes and art there’s something for everyone.”

Test events for Folke About Town are being co-produced with the community. Successful markets may be taken on by individuals and sustained into the future.

These events come after the success of the first Folke About Town event Folkestone Food Festival which brought 700 people into the town and generated income for local businesses and traders outside Folca.
