Hythe and Sandgate

Fall in love with old world charm and history...

Hythe has almost the quintessential English High Street.  Filled with historic old buildings, independent shops, cafes and pubs – and only a stone’s throw from the beach – it’s a great place for a stroll.

The word ‘Hythe’ or ‘Hithe’ comes from Old English, meaning haven or landing place – very apt for this happy haven for locals and visitors alike.  Inhabited for over 1,000 years, there are mediaeval and Georgian buildings, a Saxon/Norman church, Victoriana galore – and the town was originally defended by not one but two castles, Saltwood and Lympne.
